WATERSCAPES BY ROSS BARBERA
January 24 – February 25
Artist Statement
The paintings hanging in this exhibition are from an ongoing series dedicated to capturing views of freshwater environments that include ponds, snowmelt flows, and mountain streams. In search of landscapes to paint for the paintings seen in this show, I studied and photographed natural waterscape environments on Long Island, California, and the Canadian Rockies.
Painting in acrylic on canvas and watercolor on paper, my painting process is entirely studio-based. Outside work is reserved for landscape exploration with a camera, sketching, and creating small watercolor studies. Nature has always been my inspiration, and since the late 1970s, water surfaces mingling with landscape elements have been my primary subject to paint.
